Ahhh what a great article, I really had to resist the urge to not highlight everything and turn the whole thing green. :D There are so many important points here, and you've inspired me to go finish a story on inquality, right now. Such a good read!
America's elite university system is truly mind-boggling for a Finn. Our universities are free and we get a monthly student benefit to help with living expenses. And while many of us still have student debt, it's not even in the same league as what Americans have, and the interest is almost non-existent so it's not as heavy a burden.
Also, there are special education benefits for adults who have been in the workforce for a several years. My sister is into special effects makeup (monsters and gore lol) and the Finnish social security system is paying a significant portion of her salary for the next two years so she can take a break from work and get a makeup artist's degree. It's really a fantastic system, and it helps ensure you're not tied to one job for the rest of your life.
