Algorithm Change or Not, One Thing Still Matters

Medium remains predictable in one way.

I’ve seen a lot of people say there’s been an algorithm change this month, followed by a dip in stats and earnings. And these weren’t new, relatively unknown writers, either, but established ones.

Is it that the new CEO has been busy getting the algorithm fixed after so many people have been complaining about it? Or maybe it’s just that the schools started and people are too busy with their lives to read?

Or maybe you’re not writing well enough, or your headlines suck, or people have moved on to other writers and nobody will ever find your work again? Do you have to start publishing everything through publications now?

I wouldn’t worry that much about it.

If there’s one constant here, it’s that things change. But algorithm change or not, there’s something that remains constant here: work matters.

I’ll admit my views and earnings also took a nose dive at the beginning of the month. Then again, they pretty much always do so at the start of every single month.

I don’t know why, but it’s a pretty predictable pattern at this point. They start slow and gather up speed in the second half of the month.
