Batman Is the Most Unnecessary Superhero

He’s an emotionally thwarted human who represents everything that's wrong with our world.

I’m not a fan of superhero movies.

Okay, great that we got that out of the way. If you clicked on this story because you’re a die-hard fan, you can head straight to the comment section without reading further.

I know everybody treats Marvel and DC like religion nowadays and somebody will probably get mad, but the whole thing about superheroes gives me the creeps. The idea of a small group of super-powered humans who are needed to save the world is just incredibly authoritarian.

People believing in the “I alone can fix it” rhetoric is how we’re getting into a big, big mess, after all.

A friend who’s a Marvel superfan countered this by telling me superhero movies are actually the contrary: stories about how to find your inner strength. I get that’s how it’s supposed to be seen, but let’s not forget superheroes usually either get their powers from birth or by some extremely chance occurrence with a radioactive substance.

It’s at best an aristocratic logic, at its worst one that prepares us for populist brainwashing.
