Can We Please Stop Saying He’s the Cool Pope?
Jorge Bergoglio, or Pope Francis, is a politician. And he’s not always the progressive kind.
“What good would it do for me to go to Kyiv, if the war just goes on the next day?”
That’s a quote from the artist formerly known as Jorge Bergoglio, now Pope Francis, the cool progressive Pope, the first Latin American to lead the Catholic Church.
In his recent interview with Argentinian newspaper La Nación, the Pope is careful not to mention Russia or put blame on the aggressor.
And sure, it’s good the Vatican doesn’t want to pour more fuel onto a very out-of-control fire. But on the other hand, I think we should understand Pope Francis maybe isn’t as cool as media often portrays him to be.
A True Politician
Since Pope Francis’s election by the papal conclave in 2013, newspapers around the world have been a little fanatical about him.
“He’s going to bring some new air to the church”.
“He’s such a progressive.”
Well, I hate to burst anyone’s bubble, but I don’t think Bergoglio’s track record is as clear as that.
