Today’s story is selfish. It comes from my need to organize my thoughts so I can better express them to my boyfriend and convince him about the benefits of giving his life-changing decisions some time. So that I don’t lose him, you see.

But it’s also for all of you who have decided to overturn your life and do something different, and you’re running into some obstacles. I want you to know that the fear and frustration are normal.

You’ll get through it.

There’s No Growth In the Past

My boyfriend is from Colombia. He came to Buenos Aires a year and a half ago, at 37, to study kinesiology, because he realized he needed to change things to get somewhere in his life and Bogotá isn’t exactly full of opportunities for him.

I understand the background he’s coming from because, with the obvious differences between our countries, it’s the same as mine. He’s a guy from a working-class family who’s smart and determined, but he wasn’t raised to dream big.

He left his country because he has ambition and he knows there’s something more out there for him, but he’s still limited by the universe of options that was always presented to him. He has talent for…
