Heavy Metal for the Children — How Finnish Can You Get?

Because preschoolers deserve good music, too.

Last Saturday, my 5-year-old nephew was in for a real treat: his first major live rock concert. It was by his favorite heavy metal band Hevisaurus. And boy, was he excited to go rock it out.

The band, Hevisaurus, consists of five people dressed up in cartoonish dinosaur costumes, playing heavy metal for kids.

Their song names range from the likes of “Juranoid” (a Jurassic take on “Paranoid”) and “Räyh!” (a dinosaur growl) to “Viimeinen Mammutti” (“The Last Mammoth”). Which is, honestly, too sad to listen to.

Can you imagine the last of the mammoths drawing its final breath?

Some of the songs are about other kid stuff, like homework and jungle animals. Because to get kids interested in rock music, you have to make it accessible and interesting to them.
