I’m really happy this story prompted you to write a comment, the story of a Romanian immigrant in the UK is obviously very different from mine and I would be interested in reading a longer story on your experience! (For example, in Finland Romanian immigrants often tend to be on the receiving end of xenophobic sentiment, I don’t know if you’ve encountered a lot of that in the UK especially during the Brexit campaign.)
I understand what you mean about the UK being a better choice for you than your country. I think what I’m mostly interested in saying here is that these kinds of rankings often leave us with a false sense of security and superiority, as if we were somehow “done” and perfect and there was no more work to be done to improve. I also think that superiority often feeds racism and can result in something really dangerous.
