It’s Been a Wild Year
Thank you for everything.
For my Medium friends: I know, I’ve been out.
There are some personal developments that have kept me out, like my boyfriend deciding he’s going to move back to Bogotá and me wanting to spend all the time we have together with him, not staring at a screen. It’s also summer, so there’s a lot to do.
Of course, there’s been the changes on Medium that disappointed me a bit in the last months. And then, there’s been a lot of other stuff.
But all in all, I’m closing out a fantastic year, so thank you for being here with me.
This year started out great. I was really getting into a Medium rhythm, publishing every day and slowly growing my readership.
I also won a challenge on Vocal right at the start of the year. The stars were aligning. Was I finding myself as a writer? Could I actually do this for a living?
Then, in February, the Russian invasion of Ukraine knocked me off my feet. I was suddenly filled with existential dread and anxiety at all hours, staring at Twitter for updates on the attack, on Zelenskyy’s whereabouts, on the bravery of ordinary Ukrainians.
And of course, on how fast Putin was advancing in his goals, and what it all meant on a larger scale.
