“Just Self Publish” Isn’t Great Advice for Everybody
Why I’m going to wait and learn.
Whenever I tell someone I write fiction, the first thing they say is: “Hey, you should write a book.”
Um, yes.
When I tell them I’ve actually written several, they tell me. “You should publish them.”
That would be the goal, yes.
And this is where the advice really starts rolling in. “Why don’t you just self-publish? You can do it on Amazon! This writer wrote and published a bestseller there, and you get to keep all the money! You could be the next E.L. James!”
No, I couldn’t. And not just because I don’t write erotic fiction.
A lot of self-published writers, some of whom write on this platform, are fantastic writers. They really do deserve to be published by big publishing houses and get major advances. And even if they don’t go down that road, they become really successful with self-publishing. They deserve their success.
I’m not one of them.
