Let’s Cut Matt Rife Some Slack, Okay?
He’s just a fragile little boy.
You know Matt Rife?
It’s likely you don’t. I think most of us only found out about him a couple of months ago when he released his first Netflix special.
And yet, it seemed impossible to escape the conversation about him and his sexist jokes.
Personally, Rife seemed exactly like the kind of sexist dudebro I’d love to hate. But hear me out: I think we need to cut him some slack.
He’s not who I thought he was.
Who Even Is This Guy
As a bit of a bio section for Rife for those who have no idea what I’m talking about:
Rife is a young guy who’s been doing stand-up for a long time. He only got internet famous a couple of years ago, though, after one of his TikToks went viral.
Young women loved Rife’s crowd work videos, because he, unlike most comedians, was hot. In the way that a frat guy is hot, not in the way Idris Elba or Pedro Pascal are. You have to be under 35 to appreciate Rife’s hotness.
But Rife was soon squeezing all the juice out of that lemon, soon posing for promo pictures without a shirt and pouting his full lips, giving the camera sexy looks.
