The populism term is funny, because it's gone so far from the original North American in Latin America that it's very much a derogatory term. (Despite some political theorists like Ernesto Laclau who tried to resuscitate its positive connotations.) But that just goes to show how little any of these terms actually mean. For example, in Argentina 'liberal' and 'conservative' pretty much mean the same thing, while in the US they're considered opposites.
