Senator Ted Cruz, the Texan everyone loves to hate, the noted Cancun traveler, was trending on Twitter in Latin America last week. It was after Evo Morales, former president of Bolivia, tweeted out a bit of Cruz’s speech against Colombia’s new President, Gustavo Petro.

In his tweet, Morales claims that the US is preparing destabilizing actions against Petro and other socialist governments in the region.

Now, I’m no fan of Morales’s. Largely because while he’s quick to denounce US imperialism he doesn’t do so when it comes to Russia, and has even considered it necessary to support Putin’s illegal invasion of Ukraine.

And of course, the clip he posted was from RT, a network that spreads Kremlin propaganda in Latin America and around the world. Latin America’s anti-imperialists often don’t close their eyes to imperialism when it happens somewhere else.
