The Best Book on Creativity I’ve Read In a While

Elizabeth Gilbert’s Big Magic should be required reading for creatives. And maybe everyone else, too.

I’ve read a couple of books on writing and creativity in recent years, and they’ve all given me something new and interesting. Many of them are great. But there are many different types of books in this category, some better than others, of course.

You’ve got the plotting books, from The Story Grid to Save the Cat and Story Genius. They’re all useful, but in the end I think you have to just trust yourself and let the story take you where it wants to.

Then, you’ve got the productivity guys, and the creativity gurus and, of course, the comedians who all have their own take on the business of creativity

The last one I found casually looking through my sister’s bookshelf in Finland was Elizabeth Gilbert’s Big Magic.

To be honest, the cover looked self-helpy, and that’s what the book is…to an extent. But if you’re a Medium reader who’s just looking for the courage to dip your toe into the writer pool, or a writer stuck in a rut who needs a little bit of inspiration, I’d definitely give it a try.

It might just help you break a creative dry spell or get to the next level in
