Trust your instincts with envious people, and get away from them as fast as you can.

In December 2016, my mom suddenly sent me a message with a link to the Guardian, one of the UK’s biggest newspapers.

“Look at this story! It’s you!”

I clicked on the link and found that a photographer for Reuters had snapped a picture of me, running to the office in the rain, for an article about the Argentinian economy.

(It’s still there. I’m just glad I didn't have my usual “f*** this s***, I need caffeine”-morning look on my face.)

My mom likes to keep up with things happening on this side of the Atlantic Ocean, and that means she has to recur to English-language news outlets like the Guardian. She had stumbled onto the picture of her daughter completely by accident on her Google alerts, and we laughed at the coincidence.

I got home and showed the picture to my roommate who I’d been living with for the past two years.

“I can’t believe you’re on the Guardian. I mean, I like this paper.” The jealousy seethed from her voice, and I had to force myself not to chuckle directly at her face.
