You Guys Really Hate Women, Don’t You?

Religious fundamentalists all have something in common.

I woke up yesterday to a piece of really awful news that doesn’t affect me directly, but makes me really afraid of what the future will be. The Politico story of a leak of the Supreme Court draft opinion overturning Roe v. Wade, ending the legal protection of abortion rights in the United States.

The backlash and loss of freedom for women in the United States will of course not end here. When Republicans take Congress, which they will do, they will advance toward a full, nationwide prohibition.

I don’t live in the United States. Instead, I live in a country where abortion was legalized less than two years ago. I was born and raised in a very different country, one that’s always been a pioneer in the matter of women’s rights.

I’m still scared of what this means. For the world, for the rise of authoritarians and the religious fundamentalists who made this happen.

A Slow Acceleration

We knew it would happen, right?

When I was a kid, we looked up to America. We thought it really was the land of the free. We thought you guys were the good guys, the ones promoting democracy.
